Barcelona’s Disfrutar is The World's Best Restaurant
The restaurant was named the best during the World's 50 Best Restaurants ceremony held in Las Vegas
In a ceremony held last evening at the Wynn Las Vegas, Barcelona’s Disfrutar was crowned the World’s Best Restaurant. By its ranking, the restaurant was also named the “Best Restaurant in Europe” for 2024.
The restaurant, which means “enjoy” in English, was ranked number two in 2023 and was placed in the catbird seat last evening by a voting committee of 1,080 industry experts from 27 different regions around the world. The World’s 50 Best Ranking was initiated in 2002 when British magazine, Restaurant, published a list of the world’s best restaurants utilizing input of 150 hospitality experts. In 2003, the list was expanded into a celebration and awards ceremony, and was retitled, “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants”.
Disfrutar’s number-one status should come as no surprise. The restaurant’s chef/owners — Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casanas — all worked together at Ferran Adrià’s El Bulli, where they honed the techniques that would eventually be used to create masterful dishes at their restaurant such as multi-spherical tatin of corn and foie, a panchino filled with Beluga caviar, black cauliflower with coconut and lime bechamel, and a flourless mille feuille.
Disfrutar offers two different 290€ menus, along with wine pairings for 160€. The restaurant also offers a “living table” experience for one to six guests, priced on a sliding scale, depending on the number of people attending.
Disfrutar is one of six restaurants from Spain that made the prestigious list, with two others making the top ten - Asador Etxebarri in Atxondo (number two) and Diverxo in Madrid (number four).
Other notable entries include Table by Bruno Verjus in Paris, coming in at number three and Lima’s Maido, ranked number five in the world (making it the highest-ranked restaurant in South America). New York’s Atomix is the “Best Restaurant in North America”, coming in at number six on the list. At number seven, Quintonil in Mexico City is the highest-ranking Mexican establishment, and Copenhagen’s Alchemist takes the number eight spot.
At number nine, Bangkok’s Gaggan has been named the “Best Restaurant in Asia” and Don Julio in Buenos Aires rounds out the top 10.
