Barcelona's Sips is The World's Best Bar
The World's 50 Best Bars 2023 has just been announced in a ceremony in Singapore
The annual list of the World’s 50 Best Bars was just announced at a live ceremony in Singapore.
The list is truly a global one, celebrating cocktail excellence in 28 different cities with Sips in Barcelona taking the top spot. The bar, in the city’s L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample district, opened in 2021 and is a collaboration between Simone Caporale and Marc Álvarez and offers libations in a futuristic workstation-themed venue.
Though a Barcelona bar received the top spot, London remains its standing as the European city with the most bars on the coveted list (five), including two in the top ten: Connaught Bar at number five, and Tayēr + Elementary at number eight.
In the United States, New York’s Double Chicken Please was given the number two spot in the global rankings, with New York’s Overstory coming in at number 17 and Katana Kitten at number 27. Miami’s Café La Trova takes the number 24 spot, and New Orlean’s Jewel of the South takes the number 49 position.
The Best Bar in South America is Cartagena’s Alquímico (number nine), and Singapore’s Jigger & Pony takes the highest spot for a bar in Asia, at number 14.
Sydney’s Maybe Sammy (number 15) was named the Best Bar in Australasia and Dubai’s Mimi Kakushi (number) 40 is the Best Bar in The Middle East and Africa, according to the list.
In addition to the top 50, Lima’s Lady Bee was named as the “One to Watch”, an honor bestowed upon a bar outside of the top 50 as one that has the potential to join the rankings in the future. The Best Bar Design award went to Night Hawk in Singapore, and the American Bar at Gleneagles in Auchterarder, Scotland was awarded the Best Cocktail Menu award for its Book of Berries menu.
The 50 Best Bars list is compiled by votes from the World’s 50 Best Bars Academy, which comprises 680 drinks experts, including renowned bartenders and consultants, drinks writers, and cocktail specialists from around the world. Each voter casts seven votes based on their best bar experiences of the previous 18 months, although if they have been unable to travel, they are welcome to provide five votes from their home country or SAR. Voters are required to remain anonymous and voting is independently tallied by Deloitte.
