A Whisky that Helps Dogs? We’ll Drink to That
May 20 is National Rescue Dog Day, a time to raise awareness of all the awesome pups that are awaiting their forever homes and to give thanks to all the rescues that help them achieve their goal of sleeping on soft beds and getting all the treats. I, myself, have two amazing rescues, and can’t think of a better way to support animal organizations than with a few wee drams of whisky. Copper Dog Whisky is not only an award-winning Scotch whisky, distilled in the heart of Speyside, Scotland, but it also contributes to more than 25 animal rescues, raising over $500,000 to date. By picking up a bottle for your bar, you’re helping dogs find homes. If you’re on Instagram, check out brand ambassador Pete Crawley’s account @whiskypete1 for recipes, including his take on a spritz called the Second Chance, named for New York’s Second Chance Rescue.
The Gator and the Sub
Speaking of animals, in Florida we have some unusual creatures sharing our neighborhoods. It’s common to see iguanas, herons, dolphins, manatees, and alligators hanging out on our walks. In fact, in Pinellas Park (just outside of Tampa), police recently rescued an alligator who was cruising a local supermarket parking lot. The gator, according to the police report, was just out making a grocery run at the local Publix. “We can only speculate that he was on his way to pick up a PubSub,” the police department reported, according to WFLA.com. Pub Subs, by the way, are subway sandwiches made by supermarket chain, Publix, and are well-loved throughout the Sunshine State. If you’re wondering about the 5’6” gator’s fate, Florida Fish and Wildlife arrived and related him to a proper body of water. No word about whether he was shopping for a tuna or a chicken sub.
Martha Makes the SI Swimsuit Cover
Sports Illustrated just announced that 81-year-old Martha Stewart is one of four cover models for the annual swimsuit issue. Martha Stewart was photographed by Ruven Afanador in the Dominican Republic and looks absolutely amazing in the photos (see the photos here).
Can a Vehicle Get a DUI?
We all know that you should never drink and drive? But what about your actual vehicle? That’s a debate to be had if this Minnesota man’s invention becomes popular. According to Food & Wine, inventor Ky Michaelson has built a motorcycle that runs on a 14-gallon keg of beer. The beer is poured into the keg and heated to 300 degrees, where the steam generated created the energy to move the motorcycle. Kinda like a steam locomotive, but more fun at parties.
