After a long summer and fall of campaigning, the people of the United States of America will choose a new president today.
Election results will start earnestly coming in as early as 6 p.m. when polls close in Indiana and Kentucky. The rest of the country’s polling places close in rolling waves throughout the evening, with the last polls closing at midnight ET in Alaska and Hawaii (see the entire list of poll closing times here).
The voting counts have already started to arrive, with the New Hampshire town of Dixville Notch showing a tie with three votes for Harris and three votes for Trump — the earliest spot in the country to close its polling. If that’s a sign of things to come, we’re going to have one long evening filled with anxiety. You might want to prepare with a trip to the local store for snacks and libations or find a good bar to hole up in.
If you’re in New York, check out Eater NY’s list of watch parties, just in case you can’t bear the thought of being alone this evening. There are also watch parties in Chicago, Atlanta, and D.C. If you’re in Fort Lauderdale, head over to the Hyatt Centric Las Olas, where anyone who presents their bartender with an “I Voted” sticker will receive a complimentary Election Day-themed cocktail called, 'The Margin of Error”, blending whiskey, elderflower, and seltzer.
The Hyatt Centric Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale has shared the recipe for the “Margin of Error” so you can enjoy it at home:

The New York Post dreamed up a drinking game in which players take a shot every time a pundit says, “It all comes down to turnout.” It's a surefire way to wind up on the floor long before the race is called.
