Eggs Are Being Smuggled From Mexico
As avian flu continues to sweep through farms and feed prices rise, eggs have become extremely expensive โ if you can find any in your local grocery store. The situation is so dire, that people are smuggling eggs into the U.S. from Mexico. Egg smuggling has risen 108 percent in the past few months, but before you decide to hide a dozen eggs in your car after your afternoon in Tijuana, know that smuggling eggs can bring disease into the country and comes with a hefty fine. A San Diego customs officer Tweeted the following warning: "As a reminder, uncooked eggs are prohibited entry from Mexico into the U.S. Failure to declare agriculture items can result in penalties of up to $10,000."ย
