Meet the Labubu of Pastries
Dominique Ansel and Kith Treats have collaborated on a mystery Cronut, much like the "blind box" troll toys
If you’re on Instagram or TikTok, you probably have seen Labubu — the tiny plush toy with a creepy monster face.
Labubus were created by Hong Kong native artist Kasing Lung. Lung, who now lives in the Netherlands, was inspired by Nordic mythology to create these little monsters. The Labubus are sold in “blind boxes”, meaning you don’t know which monster you’re going to get.
Celebrities like Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Kim Kardashian, and Lisa from Blackpink have all been spotted with Labubus hanging from their designer Bottega Veneta and Birkin bags. Much like a Birkin, these little critters are hard to come by, with people selling them for big money on the secondary market.
If you love the thrill of a mystery box item like a Labubu but you’d rather put your money where your mouth is, check out a new limited edition collab Cronut between chef Dominique Ansel and Kith Treats to celebrate the bakery’s 14th anniversary and Kith Treats’ 10th birthday.
Here’s where the mystery aspect comes in: The “Metropolitan” Cronut’s flavor will remain a secret until its launch. The only clue is that the taste is inspired by Kith’s global mantra, “New York to the World”.
The Metropolitan Cronut will be available exclusively at Dominique Ansel Bakery in Soho.
In addition to the Cronut, all U.S. Kith Treats locations will debut an ice cream swirl infused with the mystery flavor Cronut for one weekend only - Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18.
If the suspense is too much, the flavor will be officially revealed on social media the day before, on Thursday, May 15, via @kithtreats and @dominiqueansel. Any guesses before the big day?
