New York, Chicago, and Washington D.C. Michelin Stars Revealed
Michelin reveals stars for three major cities in one ceremony
If you were to name the top food cities in the United States, it’s likely your picks would be New York City, Chicago, and Washington D.C.
So, it came as a bit of a shock that the Michelin Guide chose to host one combined star ceremony for all three of these major culinary hubs — especially when chefs from D.C. and Chicago had to commute to the Big Apple to receive their just rewards.
But that’s just what happened last evening at Spring Studios in Tribecca at the tri-city ceremony, hosted by Man vs. Food’s Alan Richman. The ceremony offered a glimpse into the proceedings during an Instagram Live, hosted by David Shim of Cote, Eric Ripert of Le Bernadin, and Thomas Keller of Per Se.
Gwendal Poullennec, the International Director of the Michelin Guides, shed no light on the three-city ceremony, simply saying, “These milestone announcements solidify these cities as some of the best places in the world to visit for culinary adventures.”
Of the three cities, Chicago’s ceremony proved to be the one with the biggest surprise as restaurant Smyth were elevated to a three-star designation (previously the establishment enjoyed two-star status).
In New York City, Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernadin, Masa, and Per Se all retained their three-star status, with no new additions to the three-star stratosphere. Odo and Sushi Noz were added to the two-star category, and eight new restaurants were added to the one-star list including Bōm, Essential by Cristophe, Jōji, Meju, Restaurant Yuu, Sushi Ichimura ,Shmoné, and Torrisi,
Washington D.C.’s the Inn at Little Washington retained its three-star status, with Causa and Raina both new additions to the one-star category.
