NYC's Pastis Opens in Miami
Plus Elena Reygadas is named the world's best female chef, the royal family shares a recipe, and the James Beard Foundation announces its media nominees.
A New York City Favorite Expands to the Magic City
Miami’s big news is the imminent opening of Pastis in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood. The Stephen Starr and Keith McNally partnership brings the iconic New York City bistro to Miami. Pastis hosted two friends and family dinners this past week (and had a preview reception last evening) before officially opening its doors on Sunday, April 30. A full report on Miami’s Pastis (including a compare and contrast between the NYC restaurant and its tropical sister) will be forthcoming, but for clues, you only have to peruse Keith McNally’s Instagram feed to see how everything is going. The similarities to the NYC Pastis are striking down to the subway tiles and soft lighting, though there are some nods to Miami including an outdoor patio. On Instagram, McNally gave an atta-boy to his partner, Starr, saying, “With my Pastis partner Stephen Starr at the end of our first Friends & Family dinner at Pastis Miami. To be honest, Stephen did most of the work building and staffing Pastis. I just arrived for the curtain call.” Stay tuned for a complete review from a New Yorker living in Miami who spent every single Friday night of singledom at the Meatpacking District restaurant for years.
