Our Favorites for Halloween
Ghoulish cocktails, snacks for goblins, and the best last-minute costumes
Halloween is the best time of the year. The air is crisp, pumpkins are carved, and for one day everyone can be who they really want to be — whether it’s a sexy kitten, a Supreme Court justice, a superhero, or a giant taco.
Halloween, which has its beginnings as the Celtic festival of Samhain where the line between the dead and the living is blurred, is now celebrated by everyone from kids to adults to dogs.
Whether you’re throwing a Halloween party, waiting for trick-or-treaters at home, or going out to party, here are our favorite things to eat, drink, and wear this Halloween.
The Burger King Ghost Pepper Whopper
Talk about piercing the veil. Burger King released its Ghost Pepper Whopper, a Whopper patty on an orange bun with ghost-pepper cheese. Okay, Burger King has released Halloween Whoppers in the past (including the unfortunate Whopper with a black bun that turned your poop green). This year, however, Burger King is inviting you to share your meal with the dearly departed. The Burger King app has an EVP meter available through October 31, so you can detect paranormal activity wherever you are.
Pumpkin Beer
The best pumpkin beers are amber ales that have clove, pie spice, and cinnamon notes without any of the flavors being overbearing. Two Roads’ Roadsmary’s Baby is a pumpkin beer aged in rum barrels for added depth. The result is a smooth drinking ale with rich vanilla, clove, and a hint of rum sweetness. And the name is perfectly punny. Find it near you here.
Candy Corn and Cocktails
Candy corn is divisive. Some love the traditional sugary kernels, while others despise them for their waxy texture. New Orleans’ Sazarac House suggests pairing the candy with an Old Fashioned. The bourbon, it seems, is the perfect foil for the sugary treat. Try it yourself with this classic recipe
2 oz. bourbon
1/4 oz. simple syrup
A few dashes orange bitters
Stir and mix with ice. Strain into a rocks glass with cube and garnish with candy corn.
Rose All Day (And Night)
If you’re looking for a simple, last-minute Halloween costume, look no further than the Rose Champagne hoodie from Tipsy Elves. Just throw it on and as if by magic you’ve become a bottle of pink Champers. Place your order ASAP, and it will arrive before Halloween. Best of all? This hoodie does double duty — after Halloween, wear it to brunch with your friends, walk the dog, or just curl up in front of the television. Order at Tipsy Elves or Amazon.
