The James Beard Foundation Announces 2023 Semifinalists
Plus, alternatives to alcohol and an infamous fake heiress throws a dinner party
The 2023 Award Season Has Begun
The James Beard Foundation announced the semifinalists in the restaurant and chef categories for 2023. This year, the Beard Foundation combined the "Outstanding Pastry Chef" and "Outstanding Baker" awards for the "Outstanding Bakery" category. The "Outstanding Bar" category will now include any establishment that serves beverages — including coffee bars, beer bars, and non-alcoholic bars. Nominees will be announced on March 29 live in Nashville. Winners of the 2023 awards will be revealed at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony on Monday, June 5, in Chicago.
Best Alcohol Alternative Beverages
Nearly everyone who drinks booze has suffered a hangover: headaches, dehydration, and a strong feeling of regret for the tresspasses of the previous day. If you’re looking for a “buzz” without the morning after, U.S. News and World Report has investigated alternative non-alcoholic libations. Kava, beetroot, matcha, and others are alternative options to explore.
Anna Delvey (or Sorokin) Gets Her Own Dinner Show
Anna Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin) — the fake heiress who was immortalized in the Netflix series, Inventing Anna, is under house arrest in New York City. Normally, that would sound horrific, but Delvey has managed to parlay her ankle monitor into an art career and — now — a reality TV series. Delvey’s Dinner Club, will be shot as an unscripted series where Delvey invites groups of celebrities, musicians, and more into her Eat Village apartment for a catered dinner.
14 Comforting Red Wines
We’re all about cozying up under a throw with a dog and a glass of red wine. But, which one to choose? Food & Wine lists over a dozen reds that can be quaffed whenever you’re looking for a little warmth.
I am very unhappy to see you providing Anna Sorokin with free advertising for her latest shill ("Anna Delvey (or Sorokin) Gets Her Own Dinner Show"). The blurb in my email from Broken Palate makes it sound like she's a poor soul ("fake heiress") who's been locked up under dire conditions "horrific"). She's a shyster and a crook. Write ups like this only encourage other swindlers. I'm unsubscribing.
