The Queen’s drop scone recipe gets a new life
In 1960, Queen Elizabeth II sent President Eisenhower a recipe for pancakes. Called drop scones in the United Kingdom, the recipe has gone viral with the death of England’s longest-reigning monarch. As befitting the Queen, the ingredients are measured in teacups and yield dense-yet-fluffy results.
The Queen’s Pancakes
Ingredients
4 teacups flour
4 tablespoons caster sugar
2 teacups milk
2 whole eggs
2 teaspoons bicarbonate soda
3 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons melted butter
Preparation
Beat eggs, sugar, and about half the milk together, add flour, and mix well together, adding the remainder of milk as required, also bicarbonate and cream of tartar, fold in the melted butter.
Going to the game? It’s going to cost you
It’s football season and millions of people will be heading to their local stadium to watch their favorite team live. One night out seeing your favorite team and grabbing a few beers and a dog might just equal a car payment, according to site Bookies.com.
The sports betting site listed every NFL team and what it should cost for a family of four to go to a game (cheapest tickets), park, eat a hot dog each, and drink two beers and two sodas. The average cost was just over $500, with a fun day at a 49ers game costing just over a thousand dollars. The average price of a beer clocked in at around $10 (which seems cheap versus what I’ve experienced). Maybe just skip the crowds, the traffic, the parking sitch, and the overpriced cheap beers and take in a game at your favorite sports bar instead.

When Taco Bell discontinued its Mexican Pizza in 2020, people were upset — especially Doja Cat, who penned a song to its demise. When the fast food company returned the pizza to hungry fans this summer, it’s only fitting that there was music. Not as in a choir from heaven, but maybe better. Writer Hannah Friedman wrote an entire musical for the snack, with music by Grammy award-winning songwriting duo Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear. And, as the ultimate gift to humanity, Dolly Parton agreed to participate — voicing the pizza, no less. Taco Bell Mexican Pizza: The Musical premiered on TikTok on September 15. If you missed it, it lives on on TikTok (in three parts).

An estimated six million people from around the world attend the annual event.
