I like your write up on Daily Harvest. I tried Imperfect Foods and was delighted. Im on fixed income and can't afford them often but they sell all from organic chocolate covered broken pieces (one of my faves), to 3 in 1 shampoo/body wash! Those organic not so perfect/slightly blemished veggies have been just fine. You can shop it more like a market,
I don't subscribe to any. I've been tempted but I luv going to the farmers' market on weekends and to a well executed grocery store other times. Wondering if there's one to absolutely try, which one?
I too am canceling my Daily Harvest membership after 3 years. The quality of their items has gone down considerably while the prices go up. I realize we are all suffering from rising costs and fuel prices, but I would rather pay more and get better quality than have quality compromised AND have prices go up. I have complained numerous times about the quality of vegetables or the lack of QC in their company. It's really sad as this was a delivery service I really enjoyed.
Now that you mention it... On more than one occasion I've bitten into a tiny rock or something in my daily harvest bowls that I had to spit out. Lucky I never broke a tooth! 😬
Wow honestly this article comes at a weird time for me. Long-time Daily Harvest subscriber here and I am cancelling. They just switched shippers from UPS, who was very reliable, to Axlehire which is basically Uber for delivery drivers and I DID NOT RECEIVE MY FIRST BOX THROUGH THEM. That's not even why I'm cancelling though, I researched Axlehire and they are as exploitative as it gets of their workers which leads to missing/stolen packages and basically slave labor. I don't want any part of a company like Daily Harvest that's willing to contribute to this below minimum wage, gig economy bullcrap.
My DH shipment came via UPS -- but I've noticed because of delivery delays UPS has partnered with third party delivery services for the "last mile". Might be something temporary and/or localized due to driver shortages.
I hope you are right and that they don't continue using Axlehire, but the way it was explained to me is this is who I can expect to deliver my food from here on out (OR NOT, and out of their hot car after sitting for who knows how long with no tracking info available).
Thanks for letting us know! Do you think that Daily Harvest switched shippers or whomever they contracted for shipping -- there might be a middleman in there. Might be worth letting DH know what happened and why you're ditching.
Oh, trust me I did and they were very evasive about the whole thing! First they told me UPS is not available in my area to which I told them they had brought me 2 packages yesterday. 🙄 After that the way they explained it is they have too many shipments so they have to use Axlehire to deliver to me now, which is confusing! Either way, Axlehire is an abomination for so many reasons and I'm willing to forego any services that will contract with them!

less like a meal. Love it!

Hi Laine / BP: Though they’re still limited to the DC metro area, I give a two thumbs up to Vegetable + Butcher.
